Workload Generator
About the Workload Generator
The Workload Generator is often used in health care to determine how many nurses are needed in a particular area of a hospital. This number is based on the number of patients that need care and the level of care that they need.
- Populate the Workload Planner based on the number of staff who are budgeted by volume.
- Define the budgeted staff.
- Import and edit volume.
- Transform the volume based on a weighting.
- Display the weighted volume.
- Generate workload based on the weighted volume.
- Staffing Matrix — Defines the number of workers who are needed based on volumes, weighted or not.
- Volumes — Numbers of items that the staffing matrix uses to determine staffing levels. In healthcare, volume can be the patient census. Import or manually enter volumes into the system.
- Weight Sets — Increase the volume numbers by a weighting factor. Weight sets increase volumes for locations where need is higher. If a weight set adjusts a volume, the volume is a weighted volume.
Run the Workload Generator
To generate workload, the staffing matrix matches weighted volumes to staffing settings, then generates the workload requirement.
If based on the budgeted volume, this workload requirement becomes the budgeted staffing plan for the selected location and time period. If based on the planned volume, this workload requirement becomes the planned staffing plan.
Actual Workload Plan
You can generate an actual workload plan that is based on imported actual volume data, for example, patient census data.
On the Workload Planner, you can compare the actual workload to your planned and budgeted workload plan for each schedule zone to assess how well a particular zone in a location is doing in labor planning.
On the Schedule Planner, you can view actual workload counts and actual coverage on the Daily Coverage view.
You can import actual volume data multiple times each day and use the generated actual workload plan to make adjustments to the schedule for the next shift.
The Workload Planner displays the generated workload. You can import the staffing plan or enter it manually for each location, job, and shift or schedule zone.
View Workload Audits
You can use the Audit tab to view workload audits.
- Select the Audits tab at the bottom of the page to view workload audits.
- Select OK when finished.
